About Us
Start Today, Save Tomorrow
Following 2022's successful event showcases at G20 in Jakarta Indonesia, United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon Portugal and COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egpyt, the vision of moving beyond beach clean ups towards real solutions led by polluted communities is beginning to grow. This could not have been possible without strong partnerships with Singapore's various government agencies and other countries, NGOs, academia and corporates to realise the foundations of OPP.
Our goal?
To create a movement that drives ocean conservation and plastic pollution prevention via disruptive and creative projects at mass-scale impact.
The disruptor style of the company as well as the key focus in combining sustainability, sports, music, entertainment, marine research and behaviour change activations are extensions of our CEO's multi-faceted style and strengths.
Our Story
Ocean Purpose Project is a proudly Pasir Ris based social enterprise founded by Mathilda D'Silva in 2020. Known as a Singapore Idol singer, actress, comedian and performer, Mathilda worked as a broadcast and print journalist for over a decade before moving into social media community management and sustainability advocacy. She is a certified Community Management coach and specialist, training different sectors in online and offline community mobilisation techniques. Known as a dragonboat newbies coach, Mathilda's love for promoting water sports has spanned over a decade.
After a water pollution incident left Mathilda with intense autoimmune conditions, she decided to channel her energy into creating a platform for unique projects that could solve the same ocean pollution issues that made her sick. A vision of creating "ocean purpose projects" for the world was born.
Despite a global pandemic and 2020’s tsunami of challenges, Ocean Purpose Project represented Singapore as the global finalist of Climate Launchpad organised by the European Union, as EPPICC UNDP finalist for United Nations Indonesia and is the first social enterprise accepted into the Shell Start-Up Engine for our OPP Plastic to Fuel unit.
We won Most Sustainable Marine Conservation Solutions 2020 by Global Brands Magazine and were finalists for two Marketing Excellence Awards 2020 – clinching Silver in Corporate Social Responsibility for our project with migrant workers in Singapore.
In 2021, Project White Sands was selected as one of just 37 projects to be funded by the first grant call of the SG Eco Fund and most recently, APAC Insider's Singapore Business Awards 2022- Most Pioneering Ocean Plastic Mitigation Initiative 2022.
Our greatest award is the love and partnership we receive from the community of indigenous peoples, ecosystems, islanders, fishermen, cleaners and grassroots leaders who we serve on a daily basis- honouring the knowledge they possess of our coastlines.
